Saturday, a group calling themselves Protect Atascadero, an offshoot of Protect Paso, held a rally at the corner of Morro Road and El Camino Real in Atascadero from 10AM until noon. Approximately 30 people participated to show their support of police officers in their community by waving ‘thin blue line’ flags, American flags, and signs in support of the police. The ‘Thin Blue Line’ flag is a black and white version of the American flag with the center line colored blue. It represents solidarity with the American police force by supporting their efforts to keep the peace, protect the innocent, bring criminals to justice, and enforce the law. Valoree Fredendall who arranged this rally said, “In these current times we need to show our support for police.” Participants in the rally ranged from children to grandparents and at least 4 generations were involved. The waving of flags and signs encouraged passing motorists to honk showing a tremendous amount of support. Officers passing through the intersection gave squaks from thier sirens in appreciation of the event.
According to the PRotect Paso facebook page; they are a “network of patriots that are willing to stand up to roioters should it occur in Paso Robles or surrounding areas. To Protect men and women in Blue, our property, and its citizens.” They also assert they are an Anti-looting, Anti-violence, and Anti-racist group. The group has over 7719 members as of this writing in only a few weeks. For more information on Protect Paso visit their Facebook page at PRotect Paso.
